Our Research and Training Department exists to promote scientific inquiry, enhance professional skills, and contribute to the advancement of diagnostic imaging and clinical care in Uganda and beyond.
We actively collaborate with universities, health institutions, and industry partners to ensure that our work not only benefits our clients but also strengthens the broader medical community.
Research
Bethwell Imaging Centre supports and participates in medical research projects that explore new techniques, technologies, and trends in radiology, laboratory medicine, and preventive health.
Our research focuses on:
- Improving diagnostic imaging accuracy and efficiency
- Evaluating patient safety and radiation protection standards
- Advancing non-invasive imaging methods for early disease detection
- Exploring local disease patterns and imaging trends in Uganda
- Integrating technology and digital health tools into imaging practice
We also provide a platform for researchers, postgraduate students, and medical practitioners to conduct supervised studies within our facility.
All research activities are guided by ethical principles, national regulations, and patient confidentiality.
Professional Training
We are committed to building capacity and nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals through structured training and mentorship programs.
Our training programs include:
- Clinical attachments and internships for radiography, sonography, and laboratory students
- Short courses and workshops on imaging safety, patient care, and digital health tools
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD) sessions for practicing clinicians and technologists
- Hands-on mentorship under qualified radiologists and imaging experts
Participants gain practical experience using modern equipment, exposure to real clinical cases, and guidance in ethical and professional conduct.
Student Mentorship
As part of our mission to give back to the community, Bethwell Imaging Centre offers mentorship programs that help students transition from theory to practice.
Under close supervision, trainees participate in:
- Image acquisition and interpretation sessions
- Patient communication and care routines
- Equipment handling and maintenance
- Data management and digital reporting

We provide access to imaging data (under ethical clearance), technical guidance, and research supervision.
