Introduction
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is one of the most advanced diagnostic tools available today. It provides highly detailed images of internal organs and soft tissues — without using radiation. At Bethwell Imaging Centre – Kampala, we perform MRI scans with precision, safety, and comfort in mind.
How MRI Works
An MRI scanner uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to generate images of your body’s internal structures. The signals are captured and processed by a computer to form detailed pictures of organs, muscles, brain tissue, and joints.
When Doctors Recommend an MRI
Your doctor may request an MRI to:
- Examine the brain or spinal cord for tumours, strokes, or injuries.
- Evaluate joints and muscles for damage or inflammation.
- Detect tumours or abnormalities in organs.
- Assess blood vessels and heart conditions.
What to Expect
Before the scan, you’ll remove all metallic objects like jewellery, watches, and phones. You’ll lie on a cushioned table that slides into the MRI machine. The procedure is painless but produces some loud sounds; earplugs or headphones are provided for comfort.
The scan usually takes 20–45 minutes depending on the body part being examined.
Safety and Comfort
MRI is completely safe for most people. However, patients with pacemakers, metal implants, or certain medical devices should inform the radiologist in advance. Our trained staff carefully screen every patient to ensure the procedure is suitable and safe.
